Overview

Politics. It has become such a loaded word, something many people avoid at all costs. That reaction is understandable. In response, this project turns to a more familiar and accessible channel: CARTOONS. More specifically, political cartoons. Not so intimidating now, is it?

Through my research, I found that political cartoons can bridge the gap between convoluted issues and more approachable discourse.

Approach

Over the span of two months, I examined current events by creating two cartoons per week, each focusing on a different relevant topic. This rapid pace mirrored the news cycle: constant, overlapping, and difficult to fully process in real time. The process became a way of documenting public perceptions and reactions as they emerged.

Outcome

As the series developed, a theme started to take shape. The absurdity of normalized societal systems became clearer. Through an intentionally impartial lens, I stripped events down to their often satirical core.

Each cartoon focuses on a different theme, including political loyalty, access to information, institutional priorities, and the role of emerging technologies. Taken together, they reflect a range of concerns rather than a single position. Rather than offering direct critique, the work reduces complex issues into single-panel moments where humor reveals underlying contradictions. The intention is not to resolve these issues, but to provide an opportunity to step-back from the logic we’ve grown used to accepting.
